Bloomington’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk
Update 2023
Twenty-five years ago, a breast cancer survivor named Melody Martin recruited a group of local women to start Bloomington’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. The purpose was to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer through mammograms and self checks and to honor breast cancer survivors.
Over the last 25 years, this group of women has worked hard each year to sustain the Walk and to accomplish that mission. Although the need for awareness is as important as it was 25 years ago, our committee has decided to step down from the Walk.
We couldn’t have done it without our loyal supporters over the years and we will miss you. It warmed our hearts that so many of you came back year after year and we loved seeing the Survivors be honored as they walked across the stage to be recognized. We are proud that even though the Walk was never intended to be a fundraiser, generous donations from our Sponsors and participants allowed us to donate to local breast cancer related organizations each year.
Even though we won’t be meeting in October for the Walk, we challenge you to continue the mission of awareness and early detection in your own way with your family and friends and those you love.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and participation.
